Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity. Never thought of this. Much easier than using pan of boiling water. Will have to try it. Ok will try this next time, I have also broken a kiln jar by pouring boiling water in. If using kiln jars is it ok to put the seals in or what is the best way to sterilise these jars.

I was them and put them in the oven. But I think the boiling Jam would do a good job on its own. Will they get hot enough in a microwave? Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it. Not sure how effective the microwave is for sterilizing but about a year ago I had the microwave warming some food for a couple of minutes and when I opened the door an earwig walked out.

There are a few ways you can do this…. This is a great option if you own a dishwasher but do bear in mind that this will use more water than the other methods so only use this if sterilising jars in bulk.
Do not sterilise the jar lids this way. Especially metal lids as metal cannot be heated in the microwave as it will spark and catch alight. Follow the methods below to sterilise your jar and bottle lids separately.
Lids can be left in boiling hot water to sterilise. This can be done by following the boiling method above on the hob or simple by filling a container with the jar lids with boiled water from the kettle. If you are using Kilner jars you may want to remove the orange rubber seal and soak that in boiling water too.
